Three Elegies Premieres, December 6, 2006


The contemporary music ensemble, Aurora Borealis, comprised of soprano Tiffany DuMouchelle and percussionist Stephen Solook, presented a concert on December 6, 2006 at Mannes College of Music in New York. Among the pieces being performed was the world premiere of Richard Russell's Three Elegies. Following the concert, Richard Russell participated in a composers roundtable.

Three Songs of Carl Sandburg in Bulgaria


Sofia Dimitrova performed a solo recital on July 10, 2006 to a full house in Bulgaria, including Richard Russell's Three Songs of Carl Sandburg. Also on the recital were pieces by Mozart, Puccini, and Menotti. The accompanist was Marina Kapitanova. The venue was the Naval House in the city of Varna.

Elizabeth Berkowitz, June 8, 2006

Elizabeth Berkowitz presented a faculty recital at the Lucy Moses School in New York on June 8, 2006. She included Three Songs of Carl Sandburg in her ambitious program. Chaim Freiberg was the pianist.

On June 6, 2006, 8pm, Circle Variations (Fourth) was premiered in a concert at Saint Peter's Church at the Citigroup Center, Lexington Avenue and 54th Street. The concert was presented by The New York Composers Circle. The score is available as a free download here. Circle Variations (Fourth) is a short piece that formed the basis of a larger composition, Spirals.

NeverSummer in Reading, April 27, 2006

Richard Russell's piece, NeverSummer, was chosen for an informal reading under the auspices of the New York Composers Circle, April 27, 2006. This piece was written for trombonist Haim Avitsur, who was the guest artist of the evening. Alaria Chamber Music Ensemble musicians Nancy Garniez, piano, and Yuri Vodovoz, violin, rounded out the trio.

Spirals was premiered to great acclaim in a concert presented by the New York Composers Circle at St. Peter's in New York's historic Chelsea district, March 7, 2006. Guest cellist was Peter Prosser.
