Conversations (Faces) Premieres

On February 10. 2005, Richard Russell's piano trio Conversations (Faces) was performed by the Alaria Chamber Music Ensemble at CAMI Hall in New York. Andre Emelianoff was the guest cellist, joining regulars Nancy Garniez, piano, and Yuri Vodovoz, violin. This piece was written in response to the events of September 11, 2001.

Reverie at Mannes, February 2005

Reverie for Flute and Piano, a piece written while still a college composition student, was performed at Mannes College of Music's Concert Hall in February 2005. Troy Etter was the flute soloist, and Colette Valentine was the pianist. This piece was selected for performance in a concert of music by Mannes faculty and alumni.

Design for Lightning in Israel

Marking his international debut as a composer, Richard Russell's Design for Lightning was performed May 19, 2003 at Bar-Ilan University, Ramat-Gan, Israel. Haim Avitsur was the soloist, presenting a concert of new electronic music featuring trombone.

Two pieces Premiered at Mannes


In February 2003, at the annual concert of new music by Mannes faculty and alumni, two of Richard Russell's recent compositions were presented. Just before intermission, Three Songs of Carl Sandburg was premiered with soprano Tiffany DuMouchelle accompanied by R. Stewart Powell, piano. After intermission, Haim Avitsur performed the solo on a piece for trombone and CD titled Balance.

September 11 Memorial Concert

An arrangement of Richard Russell's flute piece Reverie was performed at Merkin Recital Hall in a memorial concert, September 11, 2002. Now titled Remembrances, the concert was presented by Soundclock New York, and featured the music of 20 composers, including George Crumb, P.J. Anderson, and Michael Patterson.
